Collecting military items has become a
popular and widely accepted hobby, and is probably more active than many
other fields of collecting. Since Ancient times, men have collected
military gear. Victorious warriors returned home from battle with arms
captured from the enemy, and proudly displayed them on the walls of their
homes. Fighting men have always collected souvenirs, but as the veteran
aged, interest was gradually lost in those military adventures. The Relics
were hidden away, given away, pawned, destroyed, lost, or thrown away.
After World War II is conditioned was reduced by increased regard for
military relics, that has grown and spread to international scope. The
most popular relics today are those of the Civil War, Imperial Germany,
and World War II American, German, Italian, and Japanese, items.
Militaria collecting includes military guns, edged weapons, uniforms
and gear, flags, medals, accoutrements, and many other related items
carried or worn by those who engaged in the campaigns and struggles during
our country’s history. Also including those of enemies, our country has
defeated in defense of our freedom. The “Militaria Collector’s Society
of Florida” is presently comprised of members who collect militaria from
the Medievel, to the Desert Storm eras. The purpose of our society is:
- To promote the
knowledge, study and preservation of military relics, and the
recognition of their place in the history of our country.
- To encourage and
support militaria collectors in the pursuit of their hobby.
- To provide a forum
enabling acknowledged militaria experts to disseminate knowledge and
information to the collector.
- To cooperate in the
exchange of information and artifacts between military collectors in
the furtherance of discovery, acquisition, identification, and
research of military relics.
- To preserve our
history for future generations.
